Crystal Lotus Restaurant Hong Kong Disneyland

During a recent trip to the Hong Kong Disneyland, I was invited to try out the Crystal Lotus Restaurant at the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel which is located in the park area. Serving authentic Chinese cuisines, a 7-course Chinese meal was prepared for me and my partner where we had no expectations on to what was coming our way. I mean, this is Disneyland therefore our expectations were decently average but when the food started coming our way, all we could say was wow.

Totally out of our expectations, the effort, preparations, taste and overall experience was simply amazing. I had never had such detailed Chinese cuisine in my entire life like I did here. After coming from a multi-racial country like Malaysia, I had my fair share of Chinese cuisines around the country but here in Hong Kong Disneyland, this restaurant took a new twist to Chinese food. Course by course the element of surprise got better only to be doubly surprised by how the chefs here use various methods of incorporating the Disney character of Mickey Mouse in some of the dishes.

Our verdict was simple, if you are a Chinese food lover and want to try something unique when visiting Disneyland Hong Kong, you should make a reservation at the Crystal Lotus Restaurant which is located at the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel. No regrets as in taste wise, it supersedes your expectations. You can order À la carte or even by course meals here. The ambiance of the restaurant is also something to look at due to the mix designs of modern contemporary with a Chinese. In total, there are 2238 lotuses that decorate the entire restaurant. Look our for the amazing lotus chandelier that hangs in the back dining area. A beautifully designed bar is also available for those wanting some cocktails or other drinks.

Below are some photos which I took during the 7-course Chinese dinner there. Click on the pictures to see the full size.

If you have a family and want an experience to remember, I recommend you stay at any of the Disneyland Hotels in Hong Kong.

Buka Puasa Buffet at JW Marriott KL

The JW Marriott Kuala Lumpur is proud to bring back its long-standing tradition of serving 108 of nenek’s traditional recipes and more for its buka puasa buffet this holy month of Ramadhan. Geared towards preserving the convivial heritage of a Malay kampong celebration, the buffet will revisit the nostalgia of breaking fast in a vibrant village. The 108 recipes are handed down from the grandmothers of the chefs at the JW Marriott Kuala Lumpur, while recipes for some 30-odd modern interpretations are by the chefs themselves.

The feast will feature a colourful collection of gerai –rustic wooded stalls serving specialities such as Satay Kampong and Ikan Panggang, as well as heartier dishes at the Gerai Nasi Dagang, Nasi Kandar and Nasi Ayam. The whole succulent lamb on a spit grilled over charcoal fires is bound to excite young ones and adults alike, and still others will be satiated at the tandoori meats and seafood, barbecue and noodle stalls.

The extensive spread will also feature some harder to find dishes such as Rendang Kerang, Daging Salai Masak Lemak dengan Bachang, Sambal Udang dengan Petai and Tongkeng  Ayam Goreng Cili -these made from authentic recipes learnt at nenek’s hearth. Sweet endings come in the form of the Gerai Bubur-serving a selection of sweet fruit and legume porridges, and the ever popular shaved ice and rose syrup creation, Ais Kacang, both providing perfect options to ending the meal.

In keeping with the spirit of “silatul rahim” or building sincere ties at Ramadhan and giving thanks for what we have, the JW Marriott Ramadhan buffet is priced at a reasonable MYR75++ at the Poolside and MYR65++ at the 4th floor Starhill Conference Centre; children ages 6 to 12 dining at either venue may enjoy the buffet at half price.
