Timberland 40 Years Tribute to Heritage and Craftsmanship in Malaysia

Timberland® pays tribute to the 40th Anniversary of its iconic Timberland® Yellow Boot with a weeklong celebration that honors the brand’s heritage of quality craftsmanship. From the Yellow Boot’s inception 40 years ago in a humble workshop in New Hampshire, USA to its modern interpretation today, consumers can experience how the art of craftsmanship has been nurtured by Timberland® for the past forty years and how it is being interpreted by the millennial generation today.

“Timberland pays homage to the Yellow Boot that has been the inspiration for countless collection over the past 40 year. In fact, the Timberland Yellow Boot became such an icon that our company changed its name to The Timberland Company as recognition of the Yellow Boot’s impact back then,” said Daisy Tan, General Manager for Timberland, Singapore and Malaysia. “Through our BEST THEN, BETTER NOW campaign, we celebrate a very special milestone for Timberland® while sharing our inspiration towards craftsmanship and product innovations that are relevant to today’s generation.”

Creators at the Workshop

During this weeklong celebration, Timberland has built a Workshop — a living, breathing intersection of style, quality craftsmanship and millennial culture. In collaboration with local artisans – coined Creators at the Workshop – consumers can marvel and discover craft-making while witnessing Timberland’s values in action through the featured Earthkeepers™ Heritage Collection of eco-conscious footwear and apparel.

The Workshop, crafted in collaboration with local artisans KONTAK!, showcases Timberland’s shared values of sustainability and eco-friendliness by using recyclable and reusable materials for the staging and display areas. “A third of the materials used through our event are eco-friendly reusable materials. I’m very pleased that Timberland have this opportunity to collaborate with KONTAK!, to assist in constructing such a beautiful and unique event installation while remaining sustainable and eco-friendly,” said Tan.

“With Timberland’s core values of style, performance and sustainability, we knew we had to create an impressive runway stage. So, we came up with the idea of reusing wooden pallets to build the runway stage and display showcases. The result is a very usable installation that projects heritage with a sense of rustic ambiance,” said Shaffiq

Ahmad, representative from KONTAK! To date, KONTAK! has collaborated with independent art galleries and independent artists to produce three-dimension art installations for local and international exhibitions.

Timberland is also collaborating with Art Misfits to showcase a new craft that represents the millennial generation. The collaboration allows consumers who purchase the Yellow Boots the opportunity to personalize the iconic product with inspired art pieces permanently etched onto the Yellow Boots using a technique called Pyrography, which is the craft of painting with intense heat suitable for materials like genuine leather.

“We are really honoured to be part of the celebration. Coming up with the right designs that work well with the existing aesthetics of the Yellow Boots was a good challenge for us, as it drove us to explore ideas out of the ordinary. We hope that this design personalization workshop will give Yellow Boots owners a sense of pride in owning an one-of-a-kind but stylish pair of boots,” said Michelle Yeoh, representative from Art Misfits.

Miri will resonate with the sound of music as the inaugural Asia Music Festival takes place at the Eastwood Valley Golf & Country Club on the 4 & 5 October 2013. 13 Asian bands from the Philippines, Korea, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Brunei have confirmed to perform at this festival. Among them will be the talented Tritha from India that will make her first ever performance at the Asia Music Festival in Sarawak.

Tritha was born in Kolkata. She started training in North Indian classical music at the age of five, and never stopped. She has forged her own unique, inclusive sound and has already gained critical and popular acclaim for her songs. Tritha’s dusky tones and throbbing intensity, vibrating and moving emotional commitment, thrills her audience and leaves the public spell bound.

For the past four years Tritha has also toured in Europe, including performances in famous venues such as Lieu Unique (Nantes), Il Posto (Verona), La Bellevilloise, Cabaret Sauvage, Bus Palladium, Satellit Café and St Eustache Church (Paris). She is a true global artist, always eager to discover new cultures and sounds.

As a woman, Tritha has suffered her share of harassment and discrimination in her country. She feels that her live performances, as well as her recent success as an original musician in India, are giving confidence to other women to assert themselves and follow their dreams. She is an ardent supporter of women’s rights in the country.

She includes her ideas in her songs with “Lyrics that deal with women’s liberation, social oppression and sexual exploitation” (Hindustan Times). In June 2012, she was featured on a full page in Marie Claire India as one among the ten most interesting young Indian women, and also that same month, in Tehelka Magazine. Tritha’s picture has been traveling all over the world in 2011 and 2012 with the exhibition Women Changing India, organized by the Magnum Photo Agency and BNP Paribas.
