Exploring Beijing

Explore Beijing is part of a series of travel photos from the Explorer Lifestyle Team has been busy traveling around Asia. Beijing is one of the modern yet cultural cities of China that always fascinates travelers. From the Great Wall of China to Tienanmen Square, to modern shopping streets overshadowing the traditional food alleys, you can find all of this in and around Beijing.

The Explorer Lifestyle team visited Beijing in Nov 2013 as it was nearing winter and spent a good, fun and interesting five days there. We also took an AirAsia X flight to Beijing just to prove that the flights are on par with other full serviced airlines. Yes, five hours on the AAX flight was just as comfortable as any other airline. Anyway, once there, we took our own sweet time to walk around Beijing and here are some of the photos we took for Explore Beijing.

There you have it, some random photos taken during our amazing trip to the capital of China. It is highly recommended that you visit Beijing once in your lifetime and the best time is also during Fall or Spring. It is also recommended that you spend a minimum of four days if you want to see some of the world-renown attractions here. Moving around is quite simple to but if you have experience in speaking Mandarin, that is a very helpful bonus. However, a lot of the signage are in English too. Hope you like our article on Explore Beijing.

Walking for Charity with Malaysia Airlines

Walk For Charity 2013

Walking for Charity with Malaysia Airlines

Malaysia Airlines is organising a walkathon and carnival at the Malaysia Airlines Academy in collaboration with MERCY Malaysia on the 12th of May 2013. Aptly named the MH Walk-A-Fund, this initiative is an extension to the on-going fund raising campaign called “Change For Charity” where contributions are sought from Malaysia Airlines’ guests both on-board and at the national carrier’s ticketing counters.

The MH Walk-A-Fund will be graced by the Group Chief Executive Officer, Ahmad Jauhari Yahya who will deliver his welcome speech and greet the guests. The flag off for the MH Walk-A-Fund will be as early as 8am and is expected to end an hour later. The 6km walk will be around the Kelana Jaya area.

The campaign highlights the plight of vulnerable communities and gives Malaysia Airlines’ guests an opportunity to do good for a very worthy and needy cause. Funds collected are then channelled directly and wholly to MERCY Malaysia’s Humanitarian Fund which is used for various MERCY Malaysia projects around the world.

Dato’ Najmuddin Abdullah, Malaysia Airlines, Head of Strategic Communications said, “We are expecting a large turnout of at least 2000 participants and visitors to the Walk-A-Fund and carnival. Apart from the walkathon, the car park area of the Malaysia Airlines Academy will be transformed into a carnival ground. Many exciting booths will be opened to entertain the guests that come. Amongst others, we have a booth for celebrity items auction, lucky draws, dance performances and lots of food and drinks. We urge the public to come together to support this charity event and have a fun-filled weekend with their families at the same time. All divisions in Malaysia Airlines are working together to make this event a success. The team is very focused in raising funds for this noble cause and spirits are high,” he added.

Performers from MASenidaya will also be entertaining guests at the Malaysia Airlines Academy. MASenidaya consists of full-time Malaysia Airlines employees who are talented in performing arts. The MASenidaya group is renowned for the many performances they have done locally and internationally by the invitation of Tourism Malaysia. Apart from MASenidaya, Malaysia Airlines Cabin Crew will also be performing. The organisers have also prepared a flash mob that will be staged towards the culmination of the event.

The national carrier will also open its Heritage Museum for the public on the 12th of May. This Heritage Museum displays various articles such as old cabin crew uniforms, old aircraft engines and many more historical items of Malaysia Airlines from yesteryears. Photos of the first cadet pilot group and the first set of Golden Girls (MAS Cabin Crew) are also on display.

Malaysia Airlines and MERCY Malaysia have been in partnership since 2004 to provide support and relief to victims of natural disasters. It was agreed that MERCY Malaysia implements volunteer opportunity programmes for Malaysia Airlines staff in order to train them for possible participation in relief missions within Malaysia and beyond.

The Change for Charity campaign is a part of Malaysia Airlines’ Corporate Social Responsibility programmes and allows both Malaysia Airlines and MERCY Malaysia to establish a framework for strategic collaboration for humanitarian assistance.

Malaysia Airlines A380 Takes-Off To Hong Kong on 1 May 2013

Malaysia Airlines commenced its Airbus A380 service from Kuala Lumpur to the capital of Hong Kong on the 1st of May 2013 to create airline industry news for the region. Currently Malaysia Airlines flies twice daily to Hong Kong on the A330-300 and B737-800. The superjumbo will be replacing the A330-300 service from Kuala Lumpur to Hong Kong and will operate on MH72/MH73.

In a simple yet meaningful inaugural flight event at the KL International Airport graced by Malaysia Airlines’ Group Chief Executive Officer Ahmad Jauhari Yahya and Malaysia Airlines’ senior anagement staff, the superjumbo operating flight MH72 was given a ceremonious send-off at 9:15am this morning.

The full capacity A380 flight took off for Hong Kong, 41 years after its maiden flight operations on the B737 between the two cities on 1 October 1972. Speaking at the send-off event, Malaysia Airlines’ Group CEO, Ahmad Jauhari Yahya said “The decision to fly the A380 to Hong Kong is to showcase our newest premium offering in products and services – improved comfort, luxury and convenience to our guests.”

“Hong Kong has great potential due to its good mix of Business and Leisure travellers—the city has a promising market and I also believe that our membership in the oneworld alliance from 1 February 2013 will also contribute to our load factor”. In conjunction with the introductory, the airline offered its customers attractive Economy Class fares from Kuala Lumpur to Hong Kong for only RM760 all-in return on a promotion from 17 April until 20 May 2013.

MASholidays, the travel arm of Malaysia Airlines also offered vacation packages for 4D/3N in Hong Kong with a choice of City Tour, visit to Disneyland or Ocean Park from RM1416 onwards. “We decided to reward our passengers with these irresistible promotions as our customers were very excited when they heard we were flying the A380 to Hong Kong. We generated more than 2,000 passenger sales between 13 April to date under this campaign and the numbers are still growing. This promotion has helped us kick-start the momentum to drive more sales on the A380 to Hong Kong route.”

With the A380 replacing the A330-300, Malaysia Airlines is also introducing First Class travel on this route. The super jumbo has eight First Class seats on the main deck, which converts into a full flat bed of 87 inches in length and a width of 40 inches, making it the widest seats amongst other airlines. Each seat boasts an individual 23-inch in-flight entertainment screen with personal closet and stowage for coat, luggage, laptop and personal belongings.

The airlines’ A380 also has 66 Business Class seats on the upper deck and each comes with individual 17 inches in-flight entertainment screen, the largest amongst Malaysia Airlines’ Business Class. Personal items stowage is available on each seat along with 115VAC PED power supply and USB port. Hong Kong is the national carrier’s third A380 destination after London and Paris.
