Tritha from North India to perform at AMF 2013 Sarawak

Tritha from North India

Tritha from North India to perform at AMF 2013 Sarawak

Miri will resonate with the sound of music as the inaugural Asia Music Festival takes place at the Eastwood Valley Golf & Country Club on the 4 & 5 October 2013. 13 Asian bands from the Philippines, Korea, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Brunei have confirmed to perform at this festival. Among them will be the talented Tritha from India that will make her first ever performance at the Asia Music Festival in Sarawak.

Tritha was born in Kolkata. She started training in North Indian classical music at the age of five, and never stopped. She has forged her own unique, inclusive sound and has already gained critical and popular acclaim for her songs. Tritha’s dusky tones and throbbing intensity, vibrating and moving emotional commitment, thrills her audience and leaves the public spell bound.

For the past four years Tritha has also toured in Europe, including performances in famous venues such as Lieu Unique (Nantes), Il Posto (Verona), La Bellevilloise, Cabaret Sauvage, Bus Palladium, Satellit Café and St Eustache Church (Paris). She is a true global artist, always eager to discover new cultures and sounds.

As a woman, Tritha has suffered her share of harassment and discrimination in her country. She feels that her live performances, as well as her recent success as an original musician in India, are giving confidence to other women to assert themselves and follow their dreams. She is an ardent supporter of women’s rights in the country.

She includes her ideas in her songs with “Lyrics that deal with women’s liberation, social oppression and sexual exploitation” (Hindustan Times). In June 2012, she was featured on a full page in Marie Claire India as one among the ten most interesting young Indian women, and also that same month, in Tehelka Magazine. Tritha’s picture has been traveling all over the world in 2011 and 2012 with the exhibition Women Changing India, organized by the Magnum Photo Agency and BNP Paribas.

Good Vibes Festival Partners with My Teksi Malaysia

Good Vibes Festival Partners with My Teksi Malaysia

Future Sound Asia with its first ever Good Vibes Festival 2013 is making an impression on the Kuala Lumpur music scene. In partnership with the Future Sound Asia is the innovative, new, Malaysian start up My Teksi. The official transportation for Good Vibes My Teksi will be providing a discounted taxi service to venue, Sepang F1 Circuit. The company is making a splash in Malaysia’s youth culture. With acts like the Smashing Pumpkins, Modest Mouse, and Japandroids the festival looks to amaze with formidable indie bands and by partnering with the innovative new start-up.

For taxis booked more than two days in advance using the app the users will get a flat rebate of RM25 no matter where they’re coming from. After the 15th of August the rebate will be for RM20. My Teksi is offering the young and hip seamless transportation to and from the festival.

“Events like Good Vibes is exactly what My Teksi was made for.” says My Teksi head of marketing, Cheryl Goh. Good Vibes is  essentially a good time with good friends and good music. But before and after is the hassle. First there’s parking, distance, and who will be the designated driver. Driving home at 2 AM even while drowsy and dropping off friends is enough to kill your Good Vibes buzz. However, My Teksi offers a solution to safely get to the event and arrive home all at discount with the rebate.

My Teksi Malaysia

My Teksi is making its presence and its relevance known. Music festivals are a place to let loose and enjoy the day. “My Teksi is putting taxis where and when you need them. Though simple it is innovation at work,” says Suthen Thomas, an head of ITS  for My Teksi.  As a young start up its doing two important things: answering a problem most Malaysians have had with getting a cab and tapping into Malaysian youth to start a change.

But better than that they’re giving out free ice cream. Yes, free. Anyone with the My Teksi app is free to collect on some sweet relief. So any way you put it My Teksi is serving Malaysians either with easier travel or fuller stomachs. To learn and understand more about how My Teksi got started and the principles behind the social enterprise visit the MyTeksi Website. Otherwise, have a great event at Good Vibes 2013.

Borneo Eco Film Festival

WWF joins the party at Borneo Eco Film Festival

This year’s Borneo Eco Film Festival 2013 is set to be more exciting with the coming on board of WWF-Malaysia as its official partner in Boleh Bah Filem Kita! The festival, which will be held from Sept 27 to 29, aims to highlight the relationship between local people and Borneo’s natural heritage through the showcasing of environmental films.

The “Boleh Bah Filem Kita!”, which is one of the core events of the festival, is an eco-film competition where local film-makers show how people relate to their environment through a short-film. WWF-Malaysia executive director and chief executive officer Datuk Dr Dionysius Sharma described the partnership as synergistic.”The annual film festival aims to celebrate Borneo’s bio-cultural diversity and WWF-Malaysia has the mission to achieve a future where people live in harmony with nature.

“We are pleased to support this event as their goals are very much in line with ours. The relationship between people and their natural environment has never been so vulnerable,” he said in a statement, yesterday.WWF-Malaysia believes that a better future can be achieved with awareness and education and the BEFF is an exemplary platform for this, he added.

To encourage more participation, WWF-Malaysia will present a special award for the best video theme on the proposed Tun Mustapha Park, the largest marine protected area in Malaysia once it is gazetted. The film must be under 10 minutes, shot in Borneo by people who live in Borneo, and the submission date has been extended from Aug 15 to Aug 31, while admission to the three-day film festival is free.

Besides that, the festival also aims to nurture film-making among local communities through a series of workshops named SUARA Komuniti where the local communities will have the chance to tell their own stories with their own voices. WWF-Malaysia is supporting community members from Semporna Priority Conservation Area and the proposed Tun Mustapha Park to participate and benefit from the film-making workshops. Crystal Lotus Restaurant Hong Kong Disneyland

Crystal Lotus Restaurant Hong Kong Disneyland

During a recent trip to the Hong Kong Disneyland, I was invited to try out the Crystal Lotus Restaurant at the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel which is located in the park area. Serving authentic Chinese cuisines, a 7-course Chinese meal was prepared for me and my partner where we had no expectations on to what was coming our way. I mean, this is Disneyland therefore our expectations were decently average but when the food started coming our way, all we could say was wow.

Totally out of our expectations, the effort, preparations, taste and overall experience was simply amazing. I had never had such detailed Chinese cuisine in my entire life like I did here. After coming from a multi-racial country like Malaysia, I had my fair share of Chinese cuisines around the country but here in Hong Kong Disneyland, this restaurant took a new twist to Chinese food. Course by course the element of surprise got better only to be doubly surprised by how the chefs here use various methods of incorporating the Disney character of Mickey Mouse in some of the dishes.

The bar at Crystal Lotus Restaurant

Our verdict was simple, if you are a Chinese food lover and want to try something unique when visiting Disneyland Hong Kong, you should make a reservation at the Crystal Lotus Restaurant which is located at the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel. No regrets as in taste wise, it supersedes your expectations. You can order À la carte or even by course meals here. The ambiance of the restaurant is also something to look at due to the mix designs of modern contemporary with a Chinese. In total, there are 2238 lotuses that decorate the entire restaurant. Look our for the amazing lotus chandelier that hangs in the back dining area. A beautifully designed bar is also available for those wanting some cocktails or other drinks.

Below are some photos which I took during the 7-course Chinese dinner there. Click on the pictures to see the full size.
